Quality vs Quantity
's dilemma forever.
As a medical student at a time of intense study ever comes to my head why we have to learn hundreds of syndromes and illnesses prevalence of 1:10 ^ 6. Most of them might not see in life and perhaps most, when we see some specialists concerning the subject to which we do, Would not it be better then waiting until it's time to learn the specialty right?
And no, not a matter of vague ... but right now I am studying the juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (found 1 in 300 tumors in the head and neck area) and described as "very rare case but symbolic nature in the specialty" and me as future general practitioner (that is in theory to what we are in the race) because I feel that as not or will not have ENT lowest possible bit of him in my life. True
maybe a matter of teaching and if you study it at least once and it sounds to you when you see it or already have time to see it in the literature when you have to treat it but at least they have some basis. Knowledge is important, and the more you know, the better, I have no doubt that, but ... Is it worth the effort?
And it may be narcissistic and typical, not say no, but one of my motivations for studying is to know that what I learn and I study consciousness ("seizing" the contents), I will help someone to ease the discomfort of his illness. That thought helps me, Call me a simpleton.
But just keep thinking, Is not it better to teach what appears regularly in clinic and what we can cope and do well, with good practices, which engage to give us a huge theoretical for the specialist but nothing practices?
And, above all, teach us to be good workers, to be kind to patients and to comply with a method and protocol. Because they understand that it is absurd that a doctor knows diagnose nasopharyngeal angiofibroma mentioned then you do not know the difference between a half and one external otitis.
is for posterity, but let me say many things in the ink.
